How Much Is Tax on Weed in Las Vegas? The Real Receipt Math
If you’ve bought cannabis in Las Vegas and felt like the register added a surprising amount, you weren’t imagining it. Most Nevada menus show a pre-tax number, and the taxes stacked on top at checkout are steeper than what you’d pay on almost anything else in the state. This guide walks through exactly what gets added, how to do the math yourself, and why All Day’s menu is built so you never have to.
The two taxes on every adult-use purchase
When you buy adult-use cannabis in Clark County, two separate taxes hit the receipt:
Retail cannabis excise tax: 10%. Nevada applies a 10% excise tax to the retail sale price of adult-use cannabis. It’s collected at the register on every adult-use flower, vape, concentrate, pre-roll and edible purchase.
Sales tax: 8.375%. This is the standard combined state and local sales tax rate in Clark County. It applies to cannabis the same way it applies to a pair of shoes.
Both are calculated on the same pre-tax price, so they stack side by side rather than compounding. Added together, that’s 18.375% on top of whatever number the menu shows.
There’s a third tax you never see: a 15% wholesale excise charged when cannabis moves from a cultivator to a retailer. You don’t pay it as a line item, but it’s already baked into the shelf price before the two retail taxes are added.
The math, step by step
Take a menu that lists an eighth of flower at $40 before tax.
- Retail excise: $40 × 10% = $4.00
- Sales tax: $40 × 8.375% = $3.35
- Total at the register: $40 + $4.00 + $3.35 = $47.35
Same formula for anything on the menu. Multiply the listed price by 1.18375 and you have your real out-the-door number.
| Listed pre-tax price | Excise (10%) | Sales tax (8.375%) | What you actually pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| $20 edible | $2.00 | $1.68 | $23.68 |
| $25 vape cart | $2.50 | $2.09 | $29.59 |
| $40 eighth | $4.00 | $3.35 | $47.35 |
| $60 concentrate | $6.00 | $5.03 | $71.03 |
| $100 ounce | $10.00 | $8.38 | $118.38 |
Figures rounded to the cent. Rates as published by the Nevada Department of Taxation for Clark County.
Do tourists pay the same tax?
Yes. Nevada doesn’t distinguish between residents and visitors at the register. Anyone 21 or older with valid government-issued ID pays the same 18.375% on adult-use purchases, whether they live in Summerlin or flew in from Chicago. There’s no tax-free allowance, no visitor rate and no refund on the way out.
What about medical cardholders?
Registered Nevada medical patients are exempt from the 10% retail excise on medical purchases, but still pay the 8.375% sales tax. If you hold a valid Nevada medical card, ask how a retailer handles medical pricing before you assume the menu price is what you’ll pay.
Why menus show the pre-tax number
Most dispensary menus and delivery apps show pre-tax prices because a smaller number reads better on a screen. A $40 eighth looks more appealing than a $47.35 eighth, even though the second number is the one that leaves your account. That’s a marketing choice, not a legal requirement. Nothing prevents a retailer from listing what you’ll actually pay.
It matters most when you’re comparing. Two menus can list the same $40 eighth and one of them is 18% more expensive in practice, depending on whether tax is in the number or not. When you comparison-shop in Las Vegas, the only fair comparison is receipt to receipt.
How All Day handles it
All Day Official lists every menu price with tax already included. The $40 you see is the $40 you pay. No line items appear at checkout, no delivery fee is added on qualifying orders, and there’s no tip prompt at the door. We explain the reasoning in full on our taxes-included pricing page, but the short version is that we’d rather you compare our menu against someone else’s receipt than have you discover the difference at your front door.
If you’re new to ordering from us, our guide to cannabis delivery in Las Vegas covers how the service works, and the new customer page explains the first-order offer. The menu is where you’ll see tax-included prices in practice.
Las Vegas cannabis tax FAQ
What is the total tax on recreational weed in Las Vegas? 18.375% on adult-use purchases: a 10% retail cannabis excise tax plus 8.375% Clark County sales tax, both calculated on the pre-tax price.
Is cannabis tax different in Henderson or North Las Vegas? No. The 8.375% combined sales tax rate applies across Clark County, and the 10% excise is statewide, so the total is the same anywhere in the Las Vegas valley.
Does the tax apply to delivery orders? Yes. Delivery is a retail sale, so the same taxes apply. On All Day’s menu they’re already in the listed price.
Are edibles and vapes taxed differently from flower? No. All adult-use cannabis products carry the same 10% excise plus sales tax.
Why is my receipt higher than the menu price? Because the menu showed a pre-tax price. Multiply any pre-tax cannabis price in Clark County by 1.18375 to get the real total.
Does All Day charge tax on top of the menu price? No. Every price on our menu already includes the taxes. Delivery is free on orders of $50 or more.
